Make sure your monitor, and GPU support HDR and you have to have a HDMI 2.0 cable if the card is an NVIDIA 900 series card. This article helps. once HDR is enabled in WIN 10 load RDR2 and enter settings. You will now have an option in graphics settings for HDR and turn it on.

I installed the reshade app, and the top 2 presets (not even mentioned in instructions), placed the photorealistic ini file in the RDR2 folder (which folder noone knows) and it doesn't come up in the reshade menu during the game. At all. I try not to complain but these instructions are poorly written.
Specifically, you can get 50-70 FPS in 4K, 90-120 FPS in 2K, and 90-145 FPS in 1080P. You’ll easily achieve around 100+ FPS in 4K resolution, 120+ FPS in 2K resolution, and 160+ FPS in 1080P resolution

With a laptop you can install mods and tweak the settings to your liking, also an RTX 2060 can run RDR2 at 4K with DLSS on balanced/perf which is basically the same graphical quality as the current gen consoles, probably even better since you can put stuff like volumetric lightning on high which makes a huge difference on visuals. -2.

I have the Epic version, changing a data in the options file I have managed to activate the dlss option, editing the "system" file with notepad, located in. C:\Users\ (your username)\Documents \Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings. look for the line. . and change 0 to 1.
The quick fix I found is just quit game & then relaunch. Usually get a few hours of play at least without it. You could also turn off the tip popups in the game settings but I don’t like missing them for other things so I just relaunch when it starts. Whatever that update was months ago it sucked lol.
But then, even when the hdr is disabled in windows, i can still enable hdr in (for now) every game i have tested. However when doing so, doesnt switch the osd to hdr mode, so i can still edit the settings. For now, I have found the sweet spot for red dead redemption 2, which means hdr in windows off, hdr ingame on, and applying just a tiny bit
